The Tale of the Lampworks
There is a place where the summer sun never sets, sometimes called the village at the end of the road. Its name is Killingi, and this is where part of our story begins.
A place of vast mountain heaths, where wildflowers grow and the Kaitum River runs through the landscape – one of Europe’s last unregulated rivers, fed by waters from the Kebnekaise mountains. On a clear day, you can see the mountains in the distance.
This is where Aunt Gunvor wove table runners from newspaper, where Grandma traded hand-knitted Lovikka mittens for reindeer meat at the market, and where Grandfather welded his own clothesline, using telephone wire and hoisting it high above the ground so the cows could not reach the sheets.
People here have always made use of what was available, looked after what they had and found their own way of doing things. The landscape is vast, sparse and quiet – but also full of warmth and respect for nature and for life.
These stories from our family home in Lapland are part of the heart of Lampverket.
But that heart also carries memories of barefoot summer days on Gotland and walks through Stockholm’s old neighbourhoods. A love for things that last. For the simple and the beautiful. For what skilled hands can make and what nature can provide.
Our lamp frames are welded by skilled craftspeople in Stockholm and powder-coated for a durable finish. We choose our fabrics with great care – newly made organic textiles or carefully selected vintage fabrics, gently washed with eco-friendly soap.
The shades are sewn by hand, by us and with the help of our local seamstress.
We make every lamp with the ambition to leave as small a footprint as possible, while creating something that can make a lasting impression in your home.
Today, tomorrow and for many years to come.
